Nature Boardwalk

Chicago, USA

You're walking on milk jugs. The skyline view is the money shot.

Designed by Jeanne Gang — the first woman to lead a firm that built a Chicago skyscraper — the Nature Boardwalk transformed a polluted Victorian pond into a living ecosystem in 2010.

The boardwalk is made from recycled plastic milk bottles, melted down and formed into planks. The pavilion — the honeycomb thing — is inspired by a tortoise shell and won a Smithsonian design award.

That view of the skyline? That's the money shot. That's the photo that goes on Instagram.
